Pacman Risk Pays Off For Jerry Jones

Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones made the trade with Tennessee to bring Pacman Jones to the Cowboys.

It was a risk that paid off today because Jones was reinstated by the NFL.  He can play in the season opener September 7th in Cleveland.

This is the official statement from the team:

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones was re-instated to play in the NFL for the 2008 season today by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“This is another step in the process,” said Jones.  “I am very grateful for this opportunity, and I understand my responsibilities to the Dallas Cowboys and the National Football League.  Right now I just want to keep working hard so I can accomplish the goals that I have set for myself both on and off the field.”

“Adam has worked hard to get to this point, but he also knows that there is still a lot of work ahead of him,” said Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones.   “He is fully aware of the opportunity that he has been given, and he knows that this is an ongoing process.”

Jason Witten Is Right…Know Your Role Martellus Bennett

Tim MacMahon of the Dallas Morning News Cowboys blog got the scoop on the Jason Witten-Martellus Bennett relationship.

Witten is given him tough love.  The same tough love he got from former head coach and former teammate Dan Campbell.

The message is simple.  Know your damn role.  Seriously.  The rookie from Texas A&M has to realize this is the National Football League and everybody has talent.

Bennett sometimes thinks he can just rely on his natural skills to get by.  This ain’t the Big 12.  He’s not in Aggieland anymore. This is the pros.  On the HBO TV show Hard Knocks, we’ve seen Bennett look disinterested sometimes.  I saw it at camp in Oxnard.

Please understand my take, I love the kid’s talent.  He just has to mature.

I know Jason and he’s a great guy, but he works hard and expects others to do the same.

Back to what I said, Bennett needs to know his role.  That means get in the playbook night and day, do what Witten does and perform when the time comes.

Witten should be applauded for keeping the bar high.

Witten told Timmy Mac:

“He says it all the time: ‘Jason doesn’t like me,'” Witten said of Bennett. “It’s not that I don’t like him. It’s just that I’m letting him figure it out. He’s got to figure it out first, and once he does, obviously that’s where I come along.

“He’s got a good position coach that pushes him, obviously. When he’s ready for it, I’ll definitely be able to talk to him and push his buttons. But you’ve got to figure it out first, and he’s well on his way to doing that.”

Not The SI Cover For Tony Romo

SI cover.jpegGosh darn it.  Sports Illustrated put Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo on the cover.  Jiiiiiiiiiiiinx!

I will say this, Michael Phelps was on it before, during, and after the Summer Olympics and he went 8 for 8.

I think the SI cover will be OK, just keep him off the Madden NFL cover.  That’s the one that will jinx guys.
