Vince Young Has Onion Skin

I didn’t say that Vince Young had onion skin, Titans broadcaster, Frank Wycheck did.

And before you say he was wrong, Young’s mother backed it up, telling the Tennessean Vince needs some love.   Young suffered a knee injury opening day and was booed by his home crowd.

Felicia Young said her son has grown weary of all the negativity he faces as an NFL star. On Monday, he indicated to those around him he didn’t want to play football any more.

“Vince has gone through a whole lot as a young person,” Felicia Young said. “And I think he has done pretty well up to this point. But it is hard, all he is going through right now. He’s hurting inside and out.

“But he will be fine if people are prayerful and help my baby boy out. He is a young man. He just needs a lot of love and support.”

I’m sorry.  This is the NFL.  You will get booed as a young quarterback.  Troy Aikman got booed.  Warren Moon, Donovan McNabb and Drew Brees know the feeling.  Phil Simms and Eli Manning can write a book on it.  John Elways had every move he made documented in Denver upon arrival.

There is talk Vince Young may not return to the team because he can’t handle the adversity

“What would you think, if you were tired of being ridiculed and persecuted and talked about and not being treated very well, what would you do? What kind of decision would you make?” Felicia Young said. “He may not want to deal with it (all), but you have to get to that point before you make that decision first.

“But we’re not talking about football right now. We’re talking about what would make him happy, and that is the most important thing.

“… You don’t want people to be hurting like he is. But it is a growing-up process, and he will eventually come out like gold no matter what. But Vince is going to be OK. We are just going to try and give him some space.”

It’s said to see Young can’t handle the heat that comes with playing the toughest position in sports.  There is a reason why the Titans paid him millions.  He has to stand up, no, make that grow up.  This is not Texas and Mack Brown can’t hide him or defend him from the fans.

The Big 12 Is QB Heaven

Great piece by one of the best in the business, Ivan Maisel, of on the signal callers in the Big 12.

Chase Daniel of Mizzou is a Heisman Trophy candidate, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Sam Bradford of Oklahoma or Graham Harrell of Texas Tech ended up as the first team Big 12 quarterback.

That means I’m leaving off Colt McCoy of Texas and Todd Reesing who lead Kansas to and Orange Bowl victory.

Good read.

Cowboys Still Checking Out Chris Simms

Brad Johnson’s average performance against the Chargers is what it is.  I don’t think he should be cut, but the Cowboys need to bring in another option because Rich Bartel is not.

The St. Pete Times said the Cowboys had a scout at the Bucs-Dolphins game to scout Chris Simms.

The Bucs may want a 5th rounder for the former Texas quarterback.

If they made that trade I can’t see Simms getting enough of the Cowboys offense down to be the #2 right away, but maybe by October he could have 80% of it down if he had to play.
