Rangers Fire Pitching Coach

Mark Connor is gone.  The Rangers fired their pitching coach after tonight’s win over the Blue Jays.  Bullpen coach Dom Chiti was let go as well.   The Rangers had the worst ERA in the majors.

Heck, it was 6.63 in the month of July.  That didn’t help the confidence.

Anthony Andro of the Star-T got G.M. Jon Daniels take on it here.

Connor was a Buck Showalter guy and Chiti came to the Rangers after spending a lot of years with former GM John Hart in the Indians organization.

Andy Hawkins is the new pitching coach and Jim Colburn takes over the bullpen duties.

Here’s the skinny on Hawkins who knows most of the young pitchers from OKC.

Hawkins, 48, has spent 7 of the last 8 seasons in the Rangers organization.  The former major leaguer has been the pitching coach at Triple-A Oklahoma for the last 2 ½ seasons (2006-08), working with several Rangers prospects and current pitchers in that time frame.  He was the pitching coach for the High Desert Mavericks (High-A) in the Kansas City Royals organization in 2005.  He spent four seasons prior to that as a pitching coach at various levels in the Rangers farm system, including Stockton (High-A) in 2004 and Clinton (Low-A) in 2003. He made his professional coaching debut with Savannah of the South Atlantic League in 2001-02.
