Cowboys Opening Press Conference In Oxnard

I got there for Jerry Jones state of the Cowboys union address.  Here are the highlights.

*Look for WR Terry Glenn’s situation to be handled by Friday.

Jones and his son Stephen were coy about what was going to happen.  My gut feel says Glenn will not  be with the team this year.

*Jerry said Jason Garrett doesn’t have a handshake agreement to be the next coach.

The reason, it’s against NFL rules.

*Wade Phillips is touchy about the playoff choke

Ol Wade said last year was last year and this year is this year.  He got defensive when Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News asked him about the club tanking in December the last two years.  Wade starts yapping about how they only lost 3 games and the Giants only went 4-4 down the stretch.

Wade got all into how the Cowboys only lost by four points to the Giants.  Bottom line, they choked, and Wade doesn’t like being reminded of it.

*Jerry won’t talk about the Super Bowl.

He said he’s lost credibility in the past for making predictions.  He’s right.  Jerry did acknolwedge the team is good and they have big expectations.   Wade said the club is not weak at any position.  If you think about it, they have a Pro Bowl player at every position except the defensive line.

*The first round draft picks are still unsigned.

Running back Felix Jones and cornerback Mike Jenkins share the same agent, Eugene Parker.  They have not signed.  Stephen Jones (the contract man for the Cowboys) says he thinks both guys will get done at the same time.  He did not know if they were in California.

Sometimes draft picks will check into a local hotel near camp so if a deal gets done they can drive over and start practice ASAP.

*Jerry is still selling this HBO Hard Knocks special.

Jerry wants more circus-like things to take place so NFL Films is showing up with their cameras to shoot the Inside Training Camp with the Dallas Cowboys. The show will air in early August on HBO.  You know from past blogs I hate the idea.  Jerry is all for it.  Sounds like somebody needs sell tickets for a new stadium in Arlington.
