One of my favorite times of the year is about to roll around, the NFL Draft. This year the Cowboys have two picks in the first round.
Todd McShay of Scouts, Inc and ESPN.com has put out his first mock draft. McShay has the Cowboys drafting Michigan wide receiver Mario Manningham at 22 and Leodis McKelvin a Troy cornerback with return ability with the 29th selection.
I am not sold on Manningham. Too many Michigan receivers have gone bust in the NFL.
McShay breaks him down here:
Projected pick: Mario Manningham*, WR, Michigan
Manningham is an underrated talent who could be special at the next level if he keeps his head on straight. With his good deep speed it wouldn’t take Manningham long to take over Terry Glenn’s role in the Dallas offense as the vertical threat opposite Terrell Owens. However, Manningham needs to get stronger in order to deal with physical press coverage.
I know Braylon Edwards made the Pro Bowl this year, but I still see David Terrell (2001 #1 pick) wasting the Bears time after being Tom Brady’s go to guy. Derrick Alexander (1994 #1) was a bust in Cleveland under Bill Belichick.
Marquise Walker was so-so as a 3rd rounder in ’02.
I’d rather see the Cowboys take LSU’s Early Doucet, who is still on the board on this mock draft.
