Cotton Bowl Thoughts

I came to see the nation’s top running back and the wrong one showed up.

Mizzou’s Tony Temple set a Cotton Bowl Classic record with 281 yards of rushing and set another Cotton Bowl record with 4 rushing TD’s.

Temple is a senior, but could be granted another year of eligibility. That would be a great thing for Mizzou if he can come back and play another year with quarterback Chase Daniel.

I love how Arkansas interim coach Reggie Herring said Temple was “floating on air” and “that wasn’t Arkansas football”.

The 38-7 beating Mizzou gave the Razorbacks was embarrassing.

Heisman runner up Darren McFadden played a good game. The Mizzou defense stacked the line because Arkansas QB Casey Dick is just horrible. I know he’s from Allen, but this kid is not the answer.

McFadden had 21 carries for 105 yards and a the only Hog touchdown. After the game I asked him if this was his last as a Razorback. McFadden said he’d talk it over with his parents first. Yeah, the conversation will go something like this, “I’m done. They are all over me about this Cadillac Escalade so it’s time to leave. We have a new coach, I’m done.”

I kept my eyes on Felix Jones of the Razorbacks. Jones had over one thousand yards rushing, but more importantly from a Dallas Cowboys view, Jones is a kick returner. They are looking to draft a guy. They have used pick on Skyler Green and Isiah Stanback the past few years and neither guy proved to be the answer.

Julius Jones won’t be back, so they may use a draft pick on a running back. Marion Barber neees a backup… or two.

The Cowboys had two scouts at the game.

Jones is a junior, but if he turns pro could be a solid 2nd rounder. The Cowboys would want to see if Jones could return punts. He did not in the Cotton Bowl.
