Pro Bowl Cowboys

The Cowboys 11 Pro Bowl Selections tied a club record. No NFL team has more.

Big ups to player personnel director, Jeff Ireland, a former kicker for using a 6th round draft pick on kicker Nick Folk who made the Pro Bowl.

Big ups to owner/GM Jerry Jones. He gave Leonard Davis $18 million in a signing bonus and was raked for doing so. Davis made his first Pro Bowl. Davis was drafted #2 overall in the 2001 by the Arizona Cardinals as a tackle.

Davis moved inside to guard and he’s been great. That seven-year $49 million deal was worth it… so far.

Flozell Adams and Andre Gurode were the other two offensive line starters.

Tony Romo will be making his 2nd trip to the All Star game and tight end Jason Witten will make his 4th trip.

Witten should be the All Pro tight end when that team is named. He has been the best in the NFL this year.

T.O. was named a NFC starter.

The defense was filled with guys who made their first Pro Bowl: Safety Ken Hamlin and corner Terence Newman. Hamlin signed a one year deal and he’s been outstanding and I hope he gets a new contract because he’s done a solid job as the quarterback of the defensive backfield.

Demarcus Ware made it as an outside linebacker for the 2nd year. I wish Greg Ellis had joined him. Ellis leads the club with 11 sacks in 11 games. He should be there. Ellis was named an alternate.

And big ups to running back Marion Barber. He’s the first running back since Emmitt Smith to make it to Hawaii. Here’s why you should be happy for Barber. He’s not a starter, he’s clearly better than Julius Jones, but never makes any waves. He just does his thing. Good to see a team guy rewarded for an outstanding effort.

Roy Williams didn’t make the team this year, but look for him to go. He was selected as an alternate. Since the late Sean Taylor was voted in, Williams could get the nod to make his 5th straight Pro Bowl. Expect a lot of howling if Williams gets to go back to Hawaii.

Punter Mat McBriar and special teams ace Keith Davis are also alternates.

Give credit to coaches Wade Phillips, Tony Sprano, Jason Garrett, Ray Sherman, and Brian Stewart for getting the best out of their players.
