So Long Cotton Bowl…

Nice job by the folks in Dallas. The Cotton Bowl Classic is moving to Arlington for the 2010 game.

The Orange Bowl game left the Orange Bowl Stadium in Miami years ago, now the Cotton Bowl Classic officials have followed suit.

Outside of Texas the game is not respected by college teams. In 1998, I covered a UCLA team that begged and pleaded the Sugar Bowl to take them. They ended up playing in the Cotton Bowl and fans just decided not to come. The players weren’t excited about playing in Dallas.

The folks in Houston were trying to steal the game for Reliant Stadium.

The Cotton Bowl Stadium is too old to host a major bowl game.

Everyone knows the weather in Dallas is unpredictable in January. The 10 AM start in the cold is brutal.

The new Dallas Cowboys stadium in Arlington will have a roof, suites, and it’s the type of stadium that is need to get into the BCS Bowl rotation. That is the goal.

Once the Cotton Bowl gets into the BCS rotation they will matter again.

Smart move by the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association Board of Directors to move the game. They do a tremendous job, now they get a proper facility to host the game. The Classic will now go to the next level.
