Grading the Cowboys Draft

Last year the Cowboys draft got them an A grade.

The 2006 draft is far from and A. It’s not really a B, I’ll have to say it’s a C+.

In 2005 the Cowboys had 5 players start games from their draft class:

DeMarcus Ware, Marcus Spears, Rob Petitti, Marion Barber, and Chris Canty.

Right now, only 1st rounder, LB Bobby Carpenter and 2nd rounder, TE Anthony Fasano look like starters. The rest of this draft class will have to show us what they can do come training camp.

Here is the 2006 Cowboys draft class:

Round Pick (Overall)
1 18 (18) Bobby Carpenter OLB OHIO STATE
2 21 (53) Anthony Fasano TE NOTRE DAME
3 28 (92) Jason Hatcher DE GRAMBLING
4 28 (125) Skyler Green WR LSU
5 5 (138) Patrick Watkins DS FLORIDA STATE
6 13 (182) Montavious Stanley DT LOUISVILLE
7 3 (211) Pat McQuistan OG WEBER STATE
7 16 (224) EJ Whitley OT TEXAS TECH

I wish they would have snagged California tackle, Ryan O’Callaghan in the 5th round, but New England jumped on him before the Cowboys could so they addressed a need at safety in Patrick Watkins.

Skyler Green fills the need at the punt returner. We’ll just have to see what he can do in training camp and preseason games. Sometimes kids like that get a case of the dropsies and fumbles.
